York, Pa.-based Bon-Ton (NASDAQ: BONT) announcec Thursday a 0.7 percent increase in same-store salese for July compared to last Total sales for the four weeksended Aug. 2 increased 1.8 percentf to $197.9 million from $194.33 million last year. "We are pleased with our July salesw performance, particularly in light of the continue d challengingeconomic environment," he said in a news "Business was particularly strong during the latter part of the montgh due to our semi-annua l home and back-to-school promotions." Year-to-date same-store saleds decreased 5.
1 percent, and year-to-date total sales decreased 5 percenrt to $1.37 billion from $1.454 billion for the same period last year. The company'as financial results for the second quarter are scheduled to be released Aug. 21. Bon-Ton runs 280 including twelvefurniture galleries, in 23 statea including nine Elder-Beerman stores in the Daytob area.
