Ryder donates $1M to Red Cross - Washington Business Journal:

The foundation, affiliated with Miami-based (NSYE: R), will give $850,000 to the America n Red Cross Disaster Relief Fundand $150,000 to the Greater Miami & the Keys Red Crossx chapter. In making the commitment, Ryder becomes the newest member of the American Red Cross Annual Disaste rGiving Program, which includeas , , , , , , , and . Gail president and CEO of the Greater Miami AmericanRed Cross, said the program provideds resources to help with a varietyy of disasters, ranging from apartment or houss fires to hurricane relief. Ryder's announcemen t came on the opening day of the 2009hurricane season.
Ryder is extending preferred pricingv for rental vehicles to all local Red Cross chapters inthe U.S., and will encourage its 20,000 U.S. employee to help support disaster preparednessand response. “The American Red Cross is one of the most well respectec charitable organizations in the world and we greatly value the contributions it makes to communitiezs where we liveand work,” Ryder Chairmam and CEO Greg Swienton said in a news “As a transportation and logistics provider, we also understand the complexity and depth of timely resourcez needed to respond to disasters.
