The statewide surveyh of small business owners conducted by SmallBusinesd Majority, a national smalol business advocacy organization focused on health care found that affordability is the primarh obstacle to small business owners obtaining healthu insurance. Eighty-four percent of small businesseas not offering health insurance saythey can’t affore to, while 70 percent of those who do are strugglinbg to provide it.
Smalll business owners also see the cost of healt insurance as a significant barrier to entrepreneurshipl and say reform is important in helpingf theeconomy recover. “Small business owners aren’rt shirking their responsibility where health care is saidJohn Arensmeyer, founder and chief executivwe officer of Small Business Majority. “The feel a responsibility to providd health care for their employees and are willin g to do their part in fixing ourbrokeb system.” The report found 75 percengt of small business owners support having the option of a privatw or public health insurance plan as part of healthn care reform.
They also believe individuals, employers, insurers, the governmen t and health care providers should share the responsibilityy for making coveragemore “The findings in the Small Business Majorit y poll of Wisconsin small business owners parallel what we have been hearin g all over the state,” said Robert program director for Citizen Action of Wisconsin. “Skyrocketingg health care costs are a tremendous burden on Wisconsinsmalp businesses, and small business owners stronglty support fundamental reform.
